Below is the video of a story done by John Stofflet, News Anchor with NBC Channel 15 on December 5 Entitled, "Who Are The Hungry? Why The Faces of Hunger Might Surprise You." John Stofflet examines the myths surrounding who uses food pantries.
Allison Peterson, a volunteer at Sun Prairie Emergency Food Pantry is featured in this story. As a 15-year volunteer at Sun Prairie's food pantry, Allison Peterson sees the faces of those struggling with hunger every day. She said, "Oh, you see all diversities..and they just need a little break, so you help them. Nobody is shunned here--nobody is looked upon as being different."
Last year, Allison the food pantry volunteer became a food pantry client herself. "My position at work was eliminated. I was one of those people who volunteered and hoped for the best, and when I found myself unemployed, I was like...okay, it's my turn."
